Ashley Raza grew up in Milton, Ontario and left in 2000 to study at the University of Guelph. There, she earned her Honours History Degree before departing for Queensland Australia to complete her Master of Teaching at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. While in Australia, Ashley paid attention to the environmental issues and messages that the country was sending its citizens. Between her studies, Ashley visited the Numinbah Valley Environmental Education Centre and learned about the important initiatives the state was making to teach environmental awareness to students. Her passion for environmental awareness was sparked from these independent learning initiatives and her future classroom lessons brought attention to the changing climate wherever the curriculum allowed it.
Ashley has over ten years of teaching experience in all grade levels from Kindergarten to Grade 8 and is working on making her next classroom a low waste learning experience. With ten Additional Qualifications completed that range from Intermediate History, Reading Part One, Math Specialist and Special Education Specialist, she also has a strong understanding of how to implement technology in the classroom as a low waste tool.
From 2014-2018, Ashley volunteered for the Guelph and District Multicultural Festival and was on the Board of Directors from 2016-2018 to run the social media accounts, schedule the main stage performances and co-organize two annual fashion show fundraisers.
In February 2018, Ashley started Green Goals on instagram as a public platform to discuss ways that the individual can make changes in their homes to reduce their plastic and carbon emissions. Since then, Green Goals launched a website and Facebook page to share important knowledge about our changing climate and steps that have been taken on a local, and global level. This platform also provides the community with information on businesses who are working on reducing their waste. Visitors who interact with this site have access to resources that offer options that can fit any lifestyle. Anyone who wants to support sustainably minded businesses in the region can find them through the Green Goals platform.
